Joshua David Cotto, 25, denied that anyone was inside his apartment and was “immediately uncooperative with officers” as they were investigating a domestic violence report on E. Pennsylvania Avenue in Pen Argyl just after 1 a.m. on Oct. 29, Slate Belt Regional Police said.
An officer then saw drug paraphernalia in plain sight while standing in Cotto’s doorway and told him that he was being placed under arrest, police said.
Cotto resisted officers’ attempts to arrest him and struck an officer in the chest, police said.
He also tried to grab an officer’s department-issued TASER device, according to police.
Cotto was eventually subdued by officers and taken to Northampton County Booking Center, where he was charged with felony aggravated assault, felony disarming a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cotto was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Capobianco, who set bail at $50,000 straight, before holding the suspect at Northampton County prison.
